“All that matters is that you are making something you love, to the best of your ability, here and now.”
~ Rick Rubin, The Creative Act.

Welcome to my Mentoring and Creative Process study groups. I offer individual and group sessions that support personal growth and career development.

Alongside my artistic practice, teaching and mentoring artists has been my passion for a long time. I believe in the power of art and creativity to bring love and transformation to the world, and most importantly, to ourselves.

Becoming an artist is an ongoing journey, both challenging and exciting. It's easy to lose oneself in the pursuit of creating artwork that one believes others want to see or buy. It took me many years to realize that true success as an artist, and fulfillment in one's artistic career, comes from creating art that resonates with one's deepest truths and desires. It took me years to gather the courage to produce this kind of work and share it with my audience.

I derive immense joy from supporting artists in discovering their authentic voice and expressing it with dedication through their art. Whether you're a professional or amateur artist, at any stage of your artistic journey, if you feel in need of guidance, confidence, or clarity to launch, strengthen, or grow your art practice, please reach out using the contact form below. We can arrange a 15-minute introductory call to determine how I can support you.

SENSORIAL WORLDS
July 2024

Hybrid 6-week course to dive into the creative and healing potentialities of the present moment through embodiment, interdisciplinarity, and collaboration culminating in writings and a live performance. Learn more...

Drawing inspiration from the above quote by Ukrainian-Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector, this summer intensive invites participants to poetically engage with the next moment – the unknown, the imaginable, the unpredictable. One that can only be envisioned, experienced, and lived in the here and now.

Sensorial Visualities evokes a sensorial aesthetic made palpable through the whole body's capacity to be present and serve as a fertile ground for creativity and play.

Over the span of five weeks, the course
invites participants to embrace the paradox of individuality and togetherness, while exploring movement exercises, curated readings, films, and field trips. The culmination will be a collaborative live performance and a selection of sketches and poems shared in public during an open studio event.

* For artists with access to public funding who may want to consider a mentoring or professional development grant to complete my programs, I'd be happy to write a letter of support.

"This class is incredible. Guadalupe created an atmosphere that was conducive to creativity and open expression. Performance art is a vulnerable medium to work with and learn, especially in front of strangers, however, I never felt unsafe or judged by anyone in the class. Guadalupe supported learning and growth in a unique and powerful way that allowed me grow as an artist and a person."

“It's teachers like Guadalupe that give me a little bit of hope in academia. She somehow built a community in which all artists felt comfortable to take risks and chances with their art and truly engage with their intersecting identities from many different perspectives…and to think of myself and my artistic practice more seriously. I absolutely feel like I have changed a great deal after this class and that I have this visual language at my disposition now and I really want to explore the ways in which I can use performance art to explore my self and my relation to others…”

Testimonials

"Before going through the Sensorial Visualities course I was feeling tense, stuck, and most of all: disembodied. Through the work together I let go of my anxiety of being judged by others, noticing instead my own internalized judgements of myself. I let go of the idea of "pushing" and instead adopted the notion of "holding" space. I also let go of my barriers around emotions and expression. It was transformative, meditative, formative."
~ Chris  (Sensorial Visualities Program)

"Through this course and the connections I made I significantly reduced my social anxiety. I also feel that I largely overcame any sense of disconnection I felt to myself and/or the world around me. The most impactful realization I had during this class considered just how deeply I could feel the reverberation of sound in my body. The degree to which I felt the humming of others was something I would have never expected and left me feeling very uplifted. Sensorial Visualities each week allowed to explore both myself and the world around me. It gave me a strong sense of community and taught me many excellent strategies to ground myself. It came together beautifully in the final performance and exhibition. It was an excellent experience."
~ Leo (Sensorial Visualities Program)

I would say I was feeling pretty lost with where I was/where I wanted to go. Not really sure about a direction and was just open to new things. Sensorial Visualities gave me a sense of community and embodiment especially being able to be a part of a journey together while witnessing at the same time. It was life changing <3 I felt a real connection with the things we’re learning and not only in a theoretical sense but the sensations we explored and learned together felt like we were teaching our mind through our bodies and that felt very revolutionary for me."
~ Kira (Sensorial Visualities Program)

"This was an amazing experience, thank you so much, Guadalupe, for such an extraordinary learning process through this semester. She encouraged us to step out of our comfort zones (within reason) and experiment and explore any ideas we had. I am so pleased by her positive attitude and empathetic presence, I felt safe to really explore ideas I was feeling self-conscious about. I made such an amazing group of friends and it wouldn't have been possible without Guadalupe and her open perspective to talk about issues and ideas that are relevant to today's social and political climate. She is by far my favourite teacher I have encountered!"
