CUERPO: collective-body
2018
CUERPO is an ongoing project that places the body at the centre of knowing and explores how it may exist within the very soul of art making and art education.
CUERPO: collective-body invites a way to collaborate and participate as a larger organism, one that engages in shared sensing and embodiment. It is a powerful response to the sometimes disembodying spaces of academic and art institutions. CUERPO embodies an attitude of care and listening, a profound awareness of breath, and an attunement to internal and external sensory experiences. Together we gather, we support each other, and we investigate ways to develop choreographies that may emerge from feeling, from sensing, from memory, from play, from friendship.
Since its inception, I've had the privilege to present CUERPO's work at esteemed venues such as The Vancouver Art Gallery (2018), Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery (2019), Or Gallery (2019, 2020), the City of Vancouver (2022), and SFU Art Gallery (2023).
CUERPO is integrated by a fluid group of young artists and guest mentors. Among our founding participants are Chipo Chipaziwa, Sai Di, Azul Duque, Jelena Markovic, Aerial Sunday-Cardinal, Yasmine Whaley-Kalaora.
